Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the national mobile telecommunication service provider successfully completed a trial of LTE (Long Term Evelution) technology friday for the first time in South Asia.
The 4G (LTE) demosntration was conducted before Director General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Mr. Anusha Palpita, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel chairman Mr. Nimal Welgama, Sri Lanka telecom Mobitel board of directors and other distinguished invitees at the Mobitel flagship store.
The successful test of LTE technology saw a downlink speed of 96 Mbps as witnessed by the invitees. This demonstration is a part of the LTE trial conducted by Mobitel and marks the future broadband roadmap of Mobitel. There will be press advertisements from tomorrow onwards to mark the successful demonstration of 4G technology. The LTE technology is theoretically capable of providing download speeds up to 100Mbps and uplink speeds up to 50Mbps.
